What is waifu2x?
waifu2x leverages Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to perform single-image super-resolution. It is primarily designed to enhance the quality and resolution of anime-style artwork and scans, but it also provides support for processing standard photographs. The tool focuses on intelligently upscaling images while offering options to reduce noise artifacts, resulting in clearer and more detailed outputs.
Users can customize the process by selecting the image style (Artwork, Artwork/Scans, Photo), applying a specific level of noise reduction (ranging from None to Highest), and choosing an upscaling factor (1.6x, 2x, or 4x). The tool operates within defined limits: a maximum file size of 5MB, resolution limits of 3000x3000px for noise reduction, and 1500x1500px for upscaling. Processed images can be downloaded in either PNG or WebP format.
