Core Principles

1. Platform APIs are the foundation. Every accessible behavior must be implemented through the platform's native accessibility API.
2. Name, Role, Value, State. Every interactive control must expose all four properties correctly to assistive technology.
3. Focus management is critical. Keyboard focus must be visible, logical, and never lost.
4. High contrast must work. All controls must remain usable in Windows High Contrast mode and forced-colors environments.
5. Test with real screen readers. API compliance alone is insufficient -- verify with NVDA, JAWS, Narrator, or VoiceOver.
