Read Working Memory
Use the read_working_memory MCP tool to load the user's current focus, priorities, and unresolved context when the session-start hook did not already provide it or when a refresh is needed.
When To Use
- At session start if fresh Working Memory is not already present in the session context
- When resuming work after a break
- When the user asks what they are focused on now
- When the current task clearly depends on recent priorities or active initiatives
Usage Pattern
- If a fresh
<nowledge_working_memory>block is already present, reuse it instead of reading again immediately. - Otherwise, read it once near the start of the session.
- If the task is clearly a continuation, review, regression, release, or prior-decision question, move into
search-memoryafter the briefing instead of stopping there. - Reuse that context mentally instead of re-reading on every turn.
- Only refresh if the session context changed materially, the user asks, or the work has gone on long enough that a fresh briefing is clearly useful.
Summarize only the parts relevant to the current task.
Recommended Agent Skills
Expand your agent's capabilities with these related and highly-rated skills.
search-memory
Search your personal knowledge base when past insights would improve response. Recognize when stored breakthroughs, decisions, or solutions are relevant. Search proactively based on context, not just explicit requests.
check-integration
Check Nowledge Mem setup, detect your agent, and guide native plugin installation. Use when the user asks about setup, configuration, or when memory tools aren't working as expected.
distill-memory
Capture breakthrough moments and valuable insights as searchable memories in your knowledge base.
read-working-memory
Read your daily Working Memory briefing to understand current context. Contains active focus areas, priorities, unresolved flags, and recent knowledge changes. Load this automatically at the beginning of sessions for cross-tool continuity.
status
Check Nowledge Mem connection status, server version, CLI version, and configuration. Use when diagnosing issues or verifying setup.
save-handoff
Save a concise handoff summary only when the user explicitly requests it. Use this for resumable progress notes in generic agent environments where a real session importer is not guaranteed.
