PR Operations Skill

Pull request lifecycle procedures including create, CI check, merge, and review.

Viewing PR Comments

For Linear issue linking: Include Fixes LIN-123 in PR body to auto-link.

Note: The github MCP server has been replaced with gh CLI. All GitHub operations use Bash tool with gh commands.

Procedures

1. Create PR

Create a pull request from current branch:

Pre-requisites:

# Verify all checks pass locally
pnpm lint && pnpm typecheck && pnpm test:run

2. Create Draft PR

Create a work-in-progress PR:

3. Check CI Status

Monitor CI/CD pipeline:

Poll until complete:

4. Merge PR

Merge after CI passes:

Squash merge (default, recommended):

Merge commit:

Rebase merge:

Post-merge cleanup:

5. Review PR

Analyze a PR for review:

Get PR info:

gh pr view <number>
gh pr diff <number>
gh pr view <number> --json files,additions,deletions

Review checklist:

  1. Code quality

    • Functions < 30 lines
    • No deep nesting
    • Clear naming

  2. Security

    • No hardcoded secrets
    • Input validation
    • No console.log

  3. Testing

    • Tests for new code
    • Tests pass
    • Coverage adequate

  4. Patterns

    • Follows project conventions
    • Uses established patterns
    • No unnecessary abstraction

Submit review:

6. Update PR

Add commits to an existing PR:

Force push after rebase:

7. Close PR

Close without merging:

gh pr close <number>

With deletion of branch:
