Initial Model
- Start close to target - Begin with reasonable pretension estimate
- Verify static convergence - Model must converge before iteration
- Check line connectivity - Ensure proper vessel/anchor connections
- Reasonable initial lengths - Avoid extreme configurations
Configuration
- Start with default damping (0.7) - Reduce if oscillating
- Use appropriate method - Scipy for most cases
- Set realistic tolerances - 1% is typical for design
- Limit iterations - 50-100 usually sufficient
Troubleshooting
- No convergence - Reduce damping factor
- Oscillating - Increase damping, check Jacobian
- Slow convergence - Check EA values, initial guess
- Invalid lengths - Set min/max length limits
